With great pleasure we’re announcing that Belgium’s most prominent house label will be joining us again on Saturday the 16th of December.

# PROSUMER (ostgut ton, playhouse, running back)
# SAN SODA (we play house)
# RED D (we play house)

The label started off in Red D’s hometown of Deinze as a music outlet for San Soda. Soon more friends got involved and started releasing on We Play House Recordings. The label is just what the name suggests, a label releasing house music in all its shapes and forms. Their house ethics date back to the days where house was just a name for a style of music that was simply there to dance to. There is no such thing as tech house, there is no such thing as deep house, there is simply house music, good or bad. And even that depends on the ear of the beholder.

Prosumer

“The craze about the music…”

…the man called Prosumer is besotted with it. Since Achim Brandenburg heartily grabbed the microphone under this moniker in 2005 for Frankfurt’s then undisputed Label Playhouse, he showed that lasciviousness, a fever for Chicago’s Jack flavour and consciousness of tradition aren’t necessarily bound to a time and a place. Vision, passion and knowledge make Prosumer a guardian of house music history and one of the formative artists, influential DJs and important producers of our days.
While deriving his name from Alvin Toffler’s techno sci-fi-bible The Third Wave (producing and consuming at the same time), Prosumer lives up to his name. With more than a decade of Hard-Wax-Record-Store-enculturation on the clock (first in Saarbrucken, then Berlin), he spent countless nights in clubs, days looking for music and years refining his art and becoming in line with the “big three”. This is not a reference to Detroit’s car companies, but the city’s musical heritage that – together with the Big Apple and the Windy city – laid the foundation for techno and house builds with the Big Apple and the Windy City.
Prosumer oscillates between these poles. That holds true for his productions, which are affected by references and historical vertexes, but never feel to be out of time or place. An album with Murat Tepeli and collaborations with Tama Sumo expand his discography for labels like the aforementioned Playhouse, Running Back or Swayzak’s 240 Volts. On the other hand – and that might be far more important – this is exemplary for his DJ work since the mid-nineties. Prosumer connects the tracks and songs of this music’s golden age with the worthwhile pieces and developments of today. Accordingly to that special feeling which is so hard to couch, he gets engaged in it from tip to toe – and so does his audience. Proved by his mission as one of the residents in Berlin’s influential club institution, on his official mix CD for that place that describes his spectrum of sound perfectly and by this certain magic that travels with and in him everywhere.

San Soda

Couched in US house and techno but calling on Afro, disco or electro when required, San Soda has been playing around the world pretty much non-stop for the last half decade. Most often found playing vinyl, preferably on rotary mixers and in his own unique way, this Belgium born but Berlin based talent likes his careful selections do the talking. It shows in his predictably unpredictable DJ sets, which are made up of carefully chosen gems unearthed from years of digging. San Soda is also co-founder of the We Play House label, which has been the home to most of his textured, analogue house and techno releases and has helped to further his reputation as someone who prices quality over everything else.

Red D

On the DJ block since 1992 – albeit a very small block in the first 10 years – if you are an amateur of that big play we call nightlife, chances are you either danced, got drunk or got annoyed while Red D was playing some records.

Sure, I could say that I was influenced by *insert credible genre of music here* or that I got my big break at *insert name of credible legendary but now closed club here*, but who really needs to know? Let’s just say that when playing some records (since 1991), making some music (since 2005), throwing the odd party (since 1992) and running my label We Play House Recordings (since 2008), that I do it with passion, lust and a healthy dose of putting it all in the right perspective.
In no particular order the following things have proven to be important for me in some way over the past 25 years: Music Man vinyl shop, Tina Turner, new beat, Boccaccio, rave, trance, Paul Van Dyk, Cherry Moon, Cirao, DJ Phi-Phi, high school party needing a dj, Nonkel Frans, tape trading, Love Parade, Fuse, Detroit, techno, Benoelie & Biens, Chicago, house, Cajual, Silo, Derrick Carter, Kinky People, Clues, Deinze, Decadance, internet, E-bay, Discogs, Rare Records in Eindhoven, Gangstarr, DEMF/Movement, Tyree Cooper, We Play House parties, Scott Ferguson, Reggie Dokes, Lady Linn, disco, Rendez-Fou, Sunday Matinee, Larry Heard, Charlatan, San Soda, Charles Webster, We Play House Recordings, Eenders Halle, Tomorrowland, FihP, Panorama Bar, FCL, Defected, copywriting & Music Mania.

Next to DJ’ing all over Belgium and beyond as Red D I have been performing together with Lady Linn (voted Belgian’s best female singer twice) as Red D feat Lady Linn for over 11 years, bringing our gospel to almost every major club and festival in Belgium.

In 2007 my hometown friend San Soda was instrumental in me starting my label We Play House Recordings, releasing music by people like Russ Gabriel, Locked Groove, Metrobox, Reggie Dokes and many more, most notably of course San Soda and also FCL, the studio collaboration between the two of us. Our tracks ‘Let’s Go’, ‘More Than Seven’, ‘It’s You’ and our remixes for Audiojack ‘Stay Glued’ and Stuffa ‘Proof’ are by now part of house music’s collective history and have lead us to perform all over the world.

For 2016 I’m planning more house music bliss on We Play House Recordings and I’ll also be focusing on Red D solo studio work, with a release on UK stronghold Freerange testament to that focus. With FCL you can expect E.P.’s on Kai Alcé’s NDATL imprint (Fall 2016), We Play House Recordings (end of 2016).
