Celebrating 3 years of publishing records with a double release party at Ampere. DMX Krew (UK) and Hiele (BE) will present their new album, accompanied by a liveset from Ssaliva and DJ sets by Stellar Om Source (FR) and Raphael (BE).
DMX KREW LIVE (rephlex, breakin’ records, ekster) UK
The first DMX Krew release was 1995′s “Got You On My Mind” on Dutch label DAP, and this was followed in 1996 by “Sound Of The Street” on Aphex Twin’s label Rephlex. This record hinted at what was to come with its mix of instrumental electro, synthpop and techno made on vintage equipment. Lots more releases have followed, mainly through Rephlex but also on diverse labels including International Deejay Gigolos, Power Vacuum, Sonic Groove and many others. DMX Krew remixes have also appeared of various artists including M.I.A., Man Parrish, James T Cotton, and many others.
In 1997 Ed DMX started his label Breakin’ Records which gained a cult following as one of the UK’s first electro and bass labels with many releases from DMXKrew under various aliases, as well as first signings Bass Junkie and Mandroid. Later Breakin’ broke new ground with the signing and debut release of acid maestro Ceephax Acid Crew.
More recent DMX Krew tracks released on Rephlex under the umbrella of “The Collapse Of The Wave Function” reveal a deeper, more considered side to his production, featuring ambient and experimental tracks as well as quirkier dancefloor fillers, and this vibe has continued into more recent releases for Rephlex, Breakin’ and other labels including the 2014 album ‘Shape Shifting Shaman’ for Shipwrec.
HIELE LIVE (ekster) BE
SSALIVA LIVE (ekster, leaving records, vlek) BE
Step forward Francois Boulanger, a young man who one day discovered SoundForge and never looked back since, transforming himself into various musical entities in the process. First there was Kingfisherg which soon enough led to Cupp Cave, an alias that originally brought him to the attention of a hungry worldwide scene thanks to its chunky, hip hop inspired rhythms.
Seemingly not one to stand still for very long, Francois decided to continue his musical mutations further with yet another alias, Ssaliva. Releasing primarily on Belgian labels Vlek Recordings and Surf Kill as well as L.A’s Leaving Records, Ssaliva’s musical world is in a way far removed from Cupp Cave’s. Beatless and atmospheric would be two obvious adjectives to use when talking about Ssaliva’s music, an ethereal sonic world inhabited by ideas made real and which take their full potential when experienced live. It’s as experimental as anything he has done under other names, yet to simply label it as such would be underselling its potential.
STELLAR OM SOURCE (RVNG Intl.) FR
Stellar OM Source’s mutant synth melodies and revolving drum constellations aim to propel one’s self on a pathway to higher consciousness and cosmos. After a long academic focus on musical theory, composition, and classical music performance in Belgium and France, Christelle Gualdi underwent a process of “unlearning” by performing with experimental ensembles and then becoming an integral member of the DIY synthesizer community, self-releasing CDRs, amongst peers including Oneohtrix Point Never, Emeralds, and James Ferraro. Akin to early Detroit techno and electro and Warp releases, and dedicated to analog synths and the TB-303, Stellar Om Source offers no straight club tracks, but a faithful leap into infinite beat.
